I Have a Confession to Make .....

I have a little confession to make. Ready for this? Here it is.....I rarely ever wear a dress. Sad, I know. ha, ha. I can't even tell you the reason why, honestly. I love dresses, ruffles in moderation, and lovely feminine styles. So what is it? I have a few theories:

A. A dress just didn't seem practical as my kids' were growing up. Sometimes it was a struggle to even get out of my yoga pants and into something presentable!

B. When I go out somewhere I like not only to look nice, but I like to be comfortable. You have to admit, dresses and heels aren't always the epitomy of comfort. ;)

C. For many years we lived in a small country town and you just didn't see many girls/women wearing them! That probably shouldn't have stopped me, but with the above factors playing a part, it was just easier not to wear them. lol.

Now that my kids' are grown and we live in "the big city" I'm ready to add a few dresses to my wardrobe. Even though I like the dress in the photo I especially like how the stylists at Ruche accessorized it. The dress is pretty basic but once you add a rich red scarf, floral pumps and a droopy gray cardigan it's really beautiful.

Do YOU wear many dresses? How do you accessorize them?

  1. Hi Vicki. Where do you live? is there a really hot wheather? I've got used to wearing wear lots of dresses in summer, when it's scorching here in Buenos Aires and there´s hardly any other outfit I can tolerate!
During the last years, also, we've been wearing a lot of leggings underneath dresses (or long shirts or t-shirts) so it is usual now, and comfortable, to wear dresses even in winter. But it's a different style... an urban, teenage outfit, not very elegant.
    bye! -Vicky

  2. Hi Vicky! I live in Seattle Washington, so it's rainy a good part of the year. I love the idea of leggings and a dress, so I might give it a try! Thanks for your comment. :)

  3. I agree!! My dresses and skirts hang neglected in my wardrobe because yes, with little children they just seem so impractical.
One of the last times I wore a skirt it was to a child's birthday party and my son clung to my leg and downtrailed me! (It was a bit loose in the waist and I have a stupid figure!)

  4. Ha, I thought you were confessing something juicy.. I did not always wear them either, but know I love to esp in the summer. It is just easier for me.. since picking out clothes to wear is an issue for me. As a teen I would just stand infront of the closet with a blank stare on my face. Somethings never change.

  5. Ha, ha...thanks for giving me a little laugh, Callie. Sorry about the skirt incident with you son!

Linda, you're cute. I know what you mean...it can be an ordeal just finding something I'm in the mood to wear. :)

  6. I feel the same way about hats as you do dresses. They are so pretty and feminine...why don't we wear them more?

  7. no, I don't neither...:)
only special occasions or as disguise :)

in summer time more...I used to live in tropical weather so there I used more mini skirts

pants are more comfortable in everyday life I guess, at home I use caftans though...I love them! but not to go out.

  8. I am exactly the same. I love dresses but hardly ever wear then. I try to wear them on a night out sometimes but during the day to be honest they just make me feel a bit over-dressed. It's so much easier running around after a toddler when you have jeans on!
