A Feminine (yet practical) Home

Photos via Fresh Home

When my kids' were young, I found it a little challenging to have a home that was not only beautiful, but practical. I think the homeowner of this gorgeous place, did a great job of incorporating both aspects! As a Mom, you work very hard, and it only makes sense that your home should not only be a cozy and welcoming place for your family, but also a place of retreat for you .... the glue that holds it all together!

Most of us don't have a budget that will allow such an elaborate space as this (especially when our kids' are still living at home), but maybe there are small things you can do to reflect your personality and interests throughout your home. Check out flea markets, thriftstores, and antique shops to see if you can find less expensive versions of the things you love and then add them one by one. Think about your favorite COLORS, your passions, your hobbies, and the things you truly care about in life. Incorporate these around your home, too. You're doing an extremely important job as a MOM and it's important to take care of and nurture yourself in the process. I think one of the first places to start is by creating a home that refreshes and inspires you....and one that makes you smile. :)

And, by the way, if you're not a mom, most of the above applies to you, too! We ALL need a peaceful refuge at the end of a busy day. xo

  1. What a beautiful home. I appreciate your last sentence there about 'creating a home that refresshes and inspires you... and one that makes you smile.' Agreed! I'm working on doing that with my home.

  3. Hm. I agree that the space is fabulous, but I don't think that the furnishings are necessarily out of reach. It looks like the coffee tables and bedroom armoires are potentially IKEA (or could be easily replicated through IKEA), and the child's bed looks like spray-painted PVC plumbing pipes. There are some fabulous ideas here that could easily be accomplished with budget or garage-sale pieces and a can of paint! It's just put together really well with a strong, luxe, and consistent, but livable, color scheme.
