Good News for Picnik Users!

If you were a dedicated user of the free photo editing program, Picnik, you are probably aware that today is the last day that it will be available. I was pretty disappointed when I heard the news because I'm still a novice when it comes to Photoshop. Good news, though! In it's place is a new photo editing program called Pic Monkey. I tried it out yesterday and was really happy with the results (the Magnolia photo above). It was super easy and fun to use and I thought it was easier to maneuver than Picnik. There are many of the same options...basic edits along with textures and special effects....and even a few extras. Plus, I really like the vintage look to their website design!

If you try it, let me know what you think! Do you have other editing programs you'd like to recommend?

  1. Looks interesting...I normally use Picasa 3 another free photo editor. Have you used/explored it and if so
what do you think of it?

  2. I'm loving Pic Monkey but I also love Pixlr.com too. They have an express editor (like picnik) but also a more advanced editor that looks and feels alot like Photoshop if you need access to more advanced tools.

  11. I like PicMonkey, but what I'll really miss from PicNik are the easy collages I could make with it. I hope that little announcement in PicMonkey saying "Collage and more coming soon" means we will have that possibility too!
    By the way, beautiful picture!

  12. I was an avid Picnik'er and almost cried the day that I read they were closing. Since it was the only editor I user it caused me a great deal of panic. I like PicMonkey even more! The same team that developed Picnik also made PicMonkey. ALL of my work is now done in PicMonkey. We have a great group going on at Flickr. Please come and join us. Brenda, from PicMonkey does a lot of tutorials and will answer any questions asap. She's just great. =)

    1. Thanks, Ms. Becky. Hmmm....I'm trying to think. I always use "cross process" and this time I also used the crinkled brown paper overlay that they offer. I usually play around with the color saturation and move it to warmer or cooler depending on what I like.

Hope that helps a little. :)
