Summertime Memories.....
Beautiful retro images by October Rain!
Sigh...nothing like colorful retro images of children in the Summertime to brighten a morning. These photos by Patina from October Rain evoke some special childhood memories for me. They make me think of the Summer that my best friend (Lisa) and I had a carnival in her backyard. We took it very seriously and I even donated the grand prize (a small toy piano) for the person who guessed how many jelly beans were in the jar. I remember my Dad popping pan after pan of popcorn and helping us bag it to sell. There was so much left over that we went door to door afterwards and sold each bag for 5 cents a piece.
But my favorite memory of our carnival was when Lisa and I performed our very own version of "I'm Gonna Wash that Man Right Out of My Hair" from the movie "South Pacific". We really got into it and completely forgot that our crushes (Pete and Ed) were in the audience. Needless to say, those romances never did bloom. lol.
What are a few (or even just one) of your favorite Summertime memories growing up?

Summertime memories growing up for me in Arizona were playing in the irrigation haha, our neighbors pool, riding bikes, eating popsicles and playing in our fort all day. :) Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Great pics!
ReplyDeletei would love to see you two singing that song, so cute! i would say the smell of coppertone takes me right back to the beach as a kid and i still use it for that very reason. love the photos!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love her work! She has so much talent. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteoh my.
ReplyDeleteI don't even have the words to describe how much I adore these shots.
the little guy with the nose is just fantastic, as is patina's whole photostream. you're right about smiling!
ReplyDeletesummertime memory number one must be playing indians with my cousin - we used to visit each other every summer. we made everything we needed: a wigwam, bows and arrows and even horses (that would be hobby horses, but they demanded a lot of attention). our respective mums made our clothes, and then we were all set to fight the white men!
I absolutely love these images. Summers when I was younger seemed ten times as long. Chasing my dad's freshly mowed path with my sisters is one of my favorite memories...perfect contentment.
ReplyDeleteOne of mine was a family trip to my Grandmother's house. We drove and I remember leaving early in the dark of night. Sleeping in the back of the station wagin I remember waking up to see the sun rising over the mountain. I laid there looking up at that spectacular sky and thinking how wonderful that moment in time was.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading about your favorite Summer memories...they stay with you forever, don't they? xoxo
ReplyDeletehaha, You remember your crushes' names? How funny!! Those photos are so adorable I just caught myself "awwing" at the screen!
ReplyDeleteYep, Mary...I have a very selective memory and that's something I definitely remember. ha, ha.
